About Me

Hi, I'm Shawan! Pleased to meet you!
A little bit about me before we get started!

The first thing you need to know about me is INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT - I'm an imperfect person and no amount of training or really cool vestments or title will change that immutable fact. Phew! Now that we've got that out of the way, the basic facts:
I joined the Episcopal branch of the Jesus movement about ten years ago. I was accepted as a postulant for Holy Orders (Priesthood) in the Episcopal Diocese of South Carolina by the Rt. Rev. Ruth Woodliff-Stanley in April 2024, and I'm currently finishing my first year of seminary at Candler School of Theology (Emory University).

The priesthood is my second calling, and I've spent most of the first part of my professional life as a lawyer. For me, both my calling to the legal profession and my calling to ordained ministry are about meeting people where they are - at their point of need - and walking with them on their journey.

I'm a self-professed Bible nerd and I find great enjoyment in uncovering the context behind the stories we've all heard countless times in search of fresh revelation for the people of God.
